Journal: Getting Back Into It

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Oh well.

Not So Social

A little while ago, I watched a video about improving focus that mentioned staring at a fine point to turn on your animal instincts for hunting instead of checking TikTok.

To test this out, I made a bullseye design with ChatGPT, printed it (!), and stared at it for two minutes, like a normal person.

Well, it worked. Enough that I felt my woes activating when staring for several seconds. Focusing on the point cornered my mind, and it created escapes.

The mind doesn’t like staying in one place. In this experiment, I noticed mine wanted to avoid the discomfort of concentrated focus. What did it do this with? Social media ideas! Over and over.

Since observing this, I’ve been much less inclined to post. I’ve been comfortably silent, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t had the desire to publish silly shit on the internet. Welcome!

Got an iPad Pro

I’ve been waiting for the MacRumors Guide “Don’t Buy” to drop from the iPad Pro for a while. So, when Apple announced the new iPads whenever ago, I ordered one. It came this week, and I’m very happy with the purchase. It’s the best creative investment I’ve made in the past few years.

I got it primarily for the drawing features, as I’m learning Adobe Illustrator, and a mouse only goes so far. However, it has been much more versatile beyond that, covering many use cases for the crushed-up things in its controversial ad.

Here are the main uses I’m excited about:

  • Art: I can doodle! Big folder of art apps to learn.

  • Video: Good couch companion. Can Airplay videos to the TV.

  • Games: Chess is fun on it! Yeah, I’m not much of a mobile gamer.

  • Reading: It’s great for that, especially comic boocth!

  • Music: Fits over the piano. Plenty of great apps for music theory and notation.

  • Camera: Another lens, with photos and videos synced to the cloud.

  • Language: Learning Kanji with education apps and tears.

I’ll also do a bunch of stupid stuff to waste my time on with it.

Pros

  • Versatility. See that stuff right up there.

  • Light. My M1 Macbook Air feels heavy. 😮

  • New Experiences: Available beyond a desktop computer

Cons

  • Some iPad apps aren’t as robust as the desktop versions, especially Adobe products.

  • Accessories are expensive and limited at this time.

  • Some websites are better on a laptop. You can request the desktop site, but the experience still isn’t smooth.

Going Forward

I’ll be writing more and updating site content.

Been juggling too much; prioritizing what I want in the air.
