Istanbul, Turkey: Land of the Mosque

Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque attracted me to Istanbul. While planning the trip I checked the map to plot their locations. To my surprise, they're right next to each other.

Another surprise came when I saw them in the skyline from across the Galata Bridge: I couldn't tell them apart from the other gigantic mosques scattered across the horizon.

Even for a devout agnostic like myself, Istanbul's numerous grand mosques exhibit the power of faith. One doesn't need to believe in something to appreciate its importance.
