Tel Aviv, Israel: A quirky beach resort

Tel Aviv isn't a particularly strange place, but it holds the right conditions for odd occurrences. A few bullet point anecdotes:

  • The man living in my Airbnb (best way to put it) kept asking "You speak Hebrew?" I guess I disappointed him by not picking up the language while I was out.

  • A cab driver had his girlfriend sitting in the front seat. She was way out of his league and taught him English while stroking the back of his neck.

  • A drunk homeless man assaulted me after I gave him 10 shekels. Apparently it wasn't enough.

These and many other quirks felt detached from Tel Aviv's character. They were a part of it, but insignificantly so, like unconcerning spots waiting to be washed away.
